LPSMC English Debating Team Shines in 2023 Competition

The LPSMC English Debating Team showcased their exceptional oratory prowess in 2023, reaching two Grand Finals. They triumphed against St. Stephen's Church College in the Hong Kong Secondary Schools Debating Competition, marking a notable victory. In the English Debating League, they valiantly secured the first runner-up position against Law Ting Pong Secondary School. The final debate, held at SKH Bishop Mok Sau Tseng Secondary School, witnessed their commendable performance before a large audience. Their achievements are a testament to their hard work and brilliant debating skills. We are immensely proud of their accomplishments.

Reflection by Wong Sin Ping, Candy 4D (25)

As the captain of the team this year, I have learnt a great deal from the experiences of competing in debating competitions. The stages from preparing a speech to delivering it are challenging and nerve-racking. However, the determination and dedication in me will always take my performance to the next level. When we won the Grand Final debate and got into the League Final, it felt like all the effort put into the matches leading up had paid off. Debating competitions strengthened my skills on how to stay calm, stay focused and communicate clearly while being in a tense moment. I would like to thank Mr. Byron for his encouragement and remarks to us. Without him helping us prepare for competitions, we would not have had the outcome we had this year. I hope the English Debating Team will have another great season in the upcoming year.

English Debating 2022-23

After a great end to the last season, with a Grand Final victory in the Hong Kong Secondary Schools Debating Competition, it was important to continue this momentum into the new school year. We decided to take up an additional challenge by entering a new debating competition alongside the HKSSDC. This new competition is called The English Debating League and mostly comprises elite schools, so we knew this was going to be a big challenge. We also have a talented pool of new debaters from form 1, who have been helping the team prepare during our ECA days, and who will all have a chance to compete in a real debate throughout the season. English Debating offers students an excellent chance to step out of their comfort zone and make tremendous improvements to their core skills, alongside the added benefit of enhanced confidence, teamwork ability and critical thinking.
